Mom and Dad...The Real Deal, Old School 70's

My Dad and Mom both had long hair once. Now, they have either White hair or No hair. Time is tough on the head.

Promote the best!

What began as a dream in 1995 has been not only realized, but realized thrice over now. On Monday the first I was promoted to Lieutenant and have not stopped smiling since. I am having a fantastic time in the Navy so far and I cannot wait for the next four or so years.

The promotion ceremony was held on Monday at the Corry Station Quarterdeck with CDR Bertram swearing me in , LCDR Schmidt and Chief Knutzen pinning my new rank on. I am attaching some pictures, enjoy.

All the best, thanks for all of your support.

Independence Day

Celebrated our country's independence with my family and friends. We can do that in this country. Hope all of you had a great day and that you were with the ones you loved as well.

Spring Is Sprung

March came and went with a bang and April moved on in. My parents came to my house for a visit Easter week and we had a good time catching up, playing golf, and just hanging out drinking coffee. (LOTS of coffee!!)

The kids have about five weeks of school left till Summer Break. They are planning trips and events already, so they should have fun. Micki and I are going to my command's dining ou in July, so she will get to wear a new dress and show off the new body. I have taken over as course manager for the course I've been teaching for the last seven months, so I will continue to be busy. And I am also part of a change of command so my August will be full as well.

In case you didn't pick up on it, I have almost stopped blogging on Blogger in favor of MySpace. As I am unable (by regulation and law) from voicing m opinion on numerous topics, I have opted to spend most of my free time (very limited now) on Photo.Net and MySpace. You can see my photographic work there and you can find me on MySpace and read some Blogs or Rants of your choice. I love that Blogger has a forum, it's just that I cannot operate in it as I wish and thus, am almost relenquishing my place. You can find these two sites on my Links to the right.

As always, thanks for stopping by; I hope you found something interesting or funny while looking on my site.

Spring Has Sprung

Spring is almost here, the azaleas in the backyard are near bloom, and I am about to embark on the chore I loathe most. This is yardwork. I have a new lawnmower in the garage that has 1 acre under it's belt. I have been overly neglectful this winter and it hasn't been started even once since October. I am sure it will be fine, but I know that I have been a bad owner. I have half and acre to mow and manicure, but I'd rather just play golf. They have a team of guys at the course to make it look nice, I wonder if they will just come to my house.

Micki and I have been taking thousands of pictures and have been developing an individual style and peer group on Photo.net. You can check out Micki's photos or my photos, see the differences. In many cases, we were together and see different things, shoot differently, and compare the results. It is quite a nice couple-bonding time.

This week is spring break for the kids and I took leave to just hang out with them. We have played golf, kicked the soccer ball, gotten haircuts, Tor got contacts, we watched movies, and tonight Corb and I are going to the Pensacola Ice Pilots home game against the Gwinnett Gladiators and we're sitting rinkside on the glass (one row back, watch for flying pucks!). I can't wait.

We joined the Zoo for the year and plan on taking numerous trips to Gulf Breeze to check on the animals. They are so adorable. I like the lowland gorilla the most, closely followed by the giraffes. Smaller zoos are much nicer in that they are more accessible. Don't get me wrong; I like the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha or the National Zoo in D.C. but a small zoo allows closeness. If you visit us, we'll take the trip across the bay. It will be worth your time.

I hope all of you reading this have a great remainder of winter and beginning of spring. May the leaves of change bloom from buds of possibilties more imaginative than you can fathom.

Life moves pretty fast...

It's Febtober already, Groundhog's Day has come and gone, and Winter is digging its sharp teeth into my bones. Micki and I have spent the last month or so coming back to reality, becoming a couple again; after being deployed a year of the past three. As she doesn't play golf especially well, and I am not much of an artist, we have come together with a hobby that we both can do-photography. We have been taking Saturdays and making dates of them; finding a location or two, shooting a couple hundred photos, and then going to dinner at a different restaurant, usually to find sushi. This evening we went downtown Pensacola and went to the old historic cemetary, then to the waterfront, then had dinner at Dharma Blue (real good sushi-I had something called "Cowboy Roll" which was steak, avocado and spring onion in a roll of rice. To die for! ) followed by a few more pics at the Old Christ Church which was lighted for a wedding. We are loving the chance to date and take in new places together. Check out our work by following the link to My Professional work.

On a different note, I finally jumped on the Navy Together We Served bandwagon, and found one of my old students from Goodfellow on it. Small world we live in. I hope to find some more shipmates. I know there are lots of us.

Tomorrow is the Super Bowl (finally) and I really don't care who wins, but I want to see Peyton Manning obtain the ring. We'll see. At least I will get to watch football, yell a lot, eat good food and see some funny (hopefully) commercials. Good luck to all.

...if you don't stop to look around once in a while, you could miss it!

The Weekend Buzz in a New Year

Spent the holidays lounging around the homestead and picked up a couple of computers for the occupants of the house after Christmas. Everyone has a MySpace but the boy, everyone loves their computer, and everyone is on theirs right this second. It is blissfully quiet, with the exception of the clicking of keyboards throughout the house.
This weekend we went to the Veteran's Memorial in Milton and the Naval Aviation Museum on Naval Air Station Pensacola, then to Orange Beach, Alabama. I took a bunch of shots, please enjoy a sampling.

Micki has found a new playtoy in Photo.Net to put her unique brand of photograpy out on the web. i have been doing this for a few weeks now, and with my new camera, I am getting some good constructive criticism by fellow photogs. Feel free to check out my work by hitting the link below.
